Trolls: Original Picture Soundtrack is the soundtrack album to the 2016 DreamWorks Blitheness picture show Trolls, released on September 23, 2016 by RCA Records. The soundtrack is produced primarily by vocaliser Justin Timberlake, Max Martin, and Shellback. It features work from Timberlake himself, along with Anna Kendrick, Ron Funches, Zooey Deschanel and Gwen Stefani, who all vocalisation characters in the film, every bit well every bit Earth, Wind & Fire and Ariana Grande.[i] The album was certified Platinum in Australia and Double Platinum in the United states of america. The song "Can't Terminate the Feeling!" was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Grammy Award.

Background [edit]

After existence announced every bit the voice to the lead character in the musical comedy Trolls reverse Anna Kendrick,[2] Billboard reported that Justin Timberlake also signed on to write and perform original music for the film.[3] Timberlake said in an interview:

It kind of all happened at the same time. I've been friends with the Katzenbergs for years, and Jeffrey had always spoken to me about doing a DreamWorks Animation picture. I believe his line was, "We can't allow Elton have all the fun," and I've e'er said, "If the right affair comes up, let's practise it." … The directors brought me to the DreamWorks campus and pitched me the flick and the character. And when I came out of the room Jeffrey was there, and he said, "And there'southward this other thing you lot could do…"[4]

By the time Timberlake joined the project, there was yet some original music needed to be written for the moving picture. Timberlake planned to cover the disco genre amidst the diversity of pop songs present in the picture.[iv] For the soundtrack album, Earth, Wind & Fire re-recorded "September" with Timberlake and Kendrick.[5]

Commercial operation [edit]

The soundtrack peaked at number ane on the ARIA Charts,[6] three on the US Billboard 200 album chart, 4 on the New Zealand Albums Nautical chart,[7] and four on the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland Albums Chart.[8] It received Platinum certifications by the Recording Industry Association of America[9] and the Australian Recording Manufacture Association,[10] and a Gold certification by the British Phonographic Industry.[11] In the Us, it has sold 573,000 copies by Apr 2017,[12] and was the year's tenth highest selling album in the land with 522,000 sold throughout 2017.[xiii]

The pb single, "Tin't Stop the Feeling!" performed by Justin Timberlake, was released on May half dozen, 2016, and reached number i on the official charts of 17 countries, including the U.s.a. Billboard Hot 100.[14]

In 2017, Trolls was ranked every bit the 11th nigh popular album of the year on the Billboard 200.[fifteen]

At the ceremony, "Can't Stop the Feeling!" won Best Song Written for an Animated Film.[xviii] The album was nominated at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards for Acme Soundtrack/Cast Album[19] and at the American Music Awards for Top Soundtrack.[20]

"Tin't Stop the Feeling!" won the Grammy Honor for Best Song Written for Visual Media,[21] and was nominated for the Academy Award for All-time Original Song.[22] Timberlake received the Hollywood Song Award for "Can't Stop the Feeling!" at the 2016 Hollywood Movie Awards.[23] It was also nominated for the Golden Earth Award for Best Original Vocal,[24] Critics' Choice Award for Best Vocal,[25] and Satellite Award for All-time Original Vocal.[26]
